How it Works

Step 1

Skimmer (mechanical filter): The skimmer is placed at the edge of the pond and constantly draws in surface water. Its main job is to trap floating materials like fallen leaves, seeds, and dust before they can settle at the bottom. Inside the skimmer, a pump and basket work together to keep the surface of the pond clean and ready for the next stage of filtration.

Step 2

BioFalls® (biological filter): After water passes through the skimmer, it moves into the BioFalls unit, which is often built into the waterfall. This filter is filled with media that encourages beneficial bacteria to grow. These bacteria naturally break down nutrients and organic particles, keeping the pond water clear and balanced without the use of chemical treatments.

Our Filtration Expertise

At California Waterscapes, we take pond filtration seriously. Over the years, we have worked with a wide variety of filtration systems including external and pressurized filters. Through hands on experience, we have found that the biological system developed by Aquascape Inc offers the best combination of reliability and performance.

Our approach includes two stages. First, the mechanical filter removes larger particles that can cloud the water. Then the biological filter completes the process by breaking down smaller contaminants using natural bacteria. This system is safe for fish, plants, and pets and helps maintain a clear and healthy pond all year long.
