How it Works

Step 1

Skimmer (mechanical filter): The skimmer is installed along the edge of the pond and contains both a pump and a collection basket. It works continuously to remove surface materials like leaves, twigs, and pollen before they settle. This early filtration helps keep the pond water clean and reduces the strain on the next filtration stage.

Step 2

BioFalls® (biological filter): The BioFalls unit is tucked inside the waterfall structure and receives water from the skimmer. Inside, natural bacteria live on special filter media and work to break down organic matter and excess nutrients. This keeps your pond water clear and creates a healthy aquatic environment without the need for chemical products.

Our Filtration Expertise

At California Waterscapes, we have spent years testing different filtration systems to find the most dependable solution. From external filters to pressure systems, we have tried them all. The method we trust most is the biological filtration system developed by Aquascape Inc.

Our two stage filtration approach begins with a mechanical filter that captures large particles such as fish food and organic debris. Then the water flows through a biological filter, where beneficial bacteria naturally purify it. This simple and effective method ensures that the pond remains healthy and balanced with minimal maintenance.
