How it Works

Step 1

Skimmer (mechanical filter): Installed along the pond’s edge, the skimmer is responsible for pulling in surface water and trapping leaves, dirt, and other floating debris. Inside the skimmer is a pump and collection basket that help prevent buildup, keeping the pond water cleaner before it moves on to the next stage of filtration.

Step 2

BioFalls® (biological filter): The water flows into the BioFalls unit, typically placed within a natural looking waterfall. Here, specially designed filter media provide a surface for beneficial bacteria to grow. These bacteria break down excess nutrients and organic material, helping to keep the pond clear and balanced without using chemicals.

Our Filtration Expertise

At California Waterscapes, we rely on a proven two step filtration process that supports a healthy pond year round. Over the years, we have tested many systems including pressure filters and external units. Through this hands on experience, we have found that the biological filtration system from Aquascape Inc delivers the best results for both performance and simplicity.

First, the mechanical filter captures larger debris such as leaves and fish waste. Then, the biological filter uses bacteria to purify the remaining water by breaking down smaller particles. This creates a clean and stable environment that is safe for fish, plants, and other pond life.
