How it Works

Step 1

Skimmer (mechanical filter): Located at the edge of the pond, the skimmer gently pulls water from the surface and collects floating material such as leaves, pollen, and small twigs. Inside the unit, a basket traps this debris and a pump sends the filtered water onward. This first stage helps maintain clarity and prevents buildup at the bottom of the pond.

Step 2

BioFalls® (biological filter): After leaving the skimmer, water flows into the BioFalls unit, typically positioned at the top of the waterfall. This filter is filled with natural media where beneficial bacteria live and work. These bacteria help break down excess nutrients in the water, keeping the pond clear and supporting a stable ecosystem.

At California Waterscapes, our filtration systems are the result of decades of testing and experience. We have worked with pressure filters, external units, and every configuration available, but we consistently choose the biological system developed by Aquascape Inc for its dependable results.

We follow a two part process. First, the mechanical filter removes debris like leaves and excess fish food. Then the biological filter uses natural bacteria to treat smaller particles and balance the water. This approach keeps your pond clean, healthy, and low maintenance year round.
