How it Works

Step 1

Skimmer (mechanical filter): Positioned at the pond’s edge, the skimmer contains a pump and basket to collect floating debris such as leaves, flower petals, and pollen. This process helps prevent buildup at the bottom and allows the pond’s biological filter to function more efficiently.

Step 2

BioFalls® (biological filter): Hidden within the waterfall feature, the BioFalls® uses colonies of beneficial bacteria to naturally break down organic material and excess nutrients. This keeps the water clear and safe for plants and fish, without the use of harmful chemicals.

Our Filtration Expertise

At California Waterscapes, we believe in using nature-based methods to create ponds that thrive. We’ve tested a wide range of filtration systems, bead, pressure, and internal, and rely on biological filtration systems from Aquascape Inc. for their proven effectiveness.

The two-step system begins with mechanical filtration to remove visible debris. Water then flows through the biological filter, where microscopic impurities are broken down through a natural bacterial process. This results in a clean, healthy environment that supports vibrant aquatic life and plants.
